One soft corner: planning a play area in a small home

Most Singapore families don't have a playroom. The play area is a corner of the living room, and it has to work at 3pm and look fine at 9pm. This is how we think about that corner, and how our three series fit into it.
one: a soft floor.
Everything starts with the floor. A one piece mat defines the play area the way a rug defines a seating area. Children understand the edge: on the mat is for playing.
Tumble is our playmat:
- 150 × 200 cm, with 30 mm of slow rebound foam
- a flannel top that wipes clean
- two designs, Scribble and Confetti
two: somewhere to sit and build.
Once a child can climb, they want height and things to rearrange. A modular play sofa gives both, and at the end of the day it stacks back into a seat.
Stack No. 01 Loaf:
- a corduroy play sofa, 120 × 60 cm
- ten pieces that make a sofa, a car, two armchairs or a path
- sits beside your sofa rather than replacing it
three: a space of their own.
Toddlers love a small room inside the big one. A tent, a den, a corner behind the sofa. Room No. 01 Arc is our soft play room:
- an arched, enclosed space with mesh sides and a zipped door
- 140 × 160 cm, 150 cm high
- sized for up to two children from 12 months
It is for awake play, with an adult in the room. Parents sometimes call it a playpen, but it is closer to a small room: somewhere to read, hide and play within sight of the sofa. It packs down and weighs about 6 kg, so it can be put away when guests come.
putting it together.
In a typical living room the three sit in a line from the sofa outwards:
- the mat in front of the sofa
- Loaf at one end of the mat
- Arc in the corner
Everything is in view from the sofa, and it is all in the same quiet colours, so the corner reads as part of the room.
We call it one shared floor. You don't need all three to start. The mat is the place to begin.
questions parents ask.
what should we buy first?
Start with the floor. A one piece play mat defines the corner, and a play sofa or a soft play room can follow as your child grows.
do the three series go together?
Yes. They share one quiet palette: Tumble in Clay, Mist and Blush on Off-White, Loaf in Cream and Sand, and Arc in Sage and Off-White.
